I am hooking one up to my z as soon as my fan shows up. I priced them at schucks/kragar/checker in Boise. They have one made by Hayden (I think that is the brand). It is a kit that has a universal solid-state adjustable thermostat, relay, inline fuse and wiring. They are about $40.00. All of the prior ones that I have used have a manual thermostat only. They worked fine. Never had a problem. Just make sure to get the temp set right. Every engine will have a temperature "sweet spot", take the time to find it and it will pay off in the long run. Make sure that you are checking the temp of the heads to find the true engine temp when you set it. If you don’t have a laser thermometer, you can get cheap ones at Harbor freight tools for around $35.00. Hope this helps.
