Message	be careful. The article doesn't say anything about the starter kicking outward. When you start the starter, the gear or tip (for lack of terminology) of the starter kicks forward as it spins. It needs to kick forward to engage the flywheel in order to spin the engine. Once it's done starting the engine, the tip goes back to its original spot.
