Message Yep, Skip the JDM. Rebuild your motor with Weisco forged pistons. At the power level your looking at the stock pistons are the weekest point. You probably cracked the rings lands already.

Step 1 - Remove motor
Step 2 - Bore, balance and install the Forged pistons.
Step 3 - Assemble and install motor.

Consider a Cometic head gaskit too. Consider going 89mm. The larger bore will increase displacement a bit and unshroud the valves. Then I'd suggest you use a die grinder to port and polish the intake and exhaust manifolds. There's a lot of oppertunity for improved flow in the manifolds. You can remove lots of material from the stock exhaust manifolds. It wont be as good as MS or Tube manifolds but you'll get great value opening up your stockers. Eastwood sell grinding kits for these tasks. Grinding kicks up all sorts of abrasive dust but be sure to use a NOSH respirator and safety glasses.
