Message After a reading a lot of posts, a few attempts, de-splicing an old wiring harness, and much frustration; the wait is finally over. I figured out how to rewire the earlier wiring harness so that power is only applied to the injectors with the key in the ignition turned to "on".

Est. time: 10mins

Tools needed:
10mm socket
soldering iron
solder
volt/ohm meter
electrical tape
and a knife or blade.

1.Remove floor mat, pull back carpet, remove floorboard covering the ecu (4x10mm).

2.Remove the three bolts holding down the ecu bracket (3x10mm) and move the ecu out onto the carpet backing.

3.Cut the black sheild for the wires down the middle (you will be reusing it later) and remove the electrical tape holding it on at the bottom.

4.Next there is a bundle of White wires with black stripes on them. Locate the bundle of wires 6-8 inches up from the bottom of the ecu harness, they should be two 16awg wires and two 18awg wires connected to a single 18awg wire running to the ecu (all of them are wrapped in electrical tape from the factory). One of the 16awg wires and the two 18 awg wires above the connector go to the injectors. The other 16 awg wire goes to the fuse box. Ignore the white wire with a blue stripe in the pic.

5.You need to cut these wires at the conntector and seperate all of them. The two 16 awg wires that go to the fuse box and 4 of the injectors are indistinguishable. (see picture in step six)

6.Now reconnect the battery and test with a volt meter the 16 awg wires and a commone ground to see which one has current. Once you have found it disconnect the battery again. The wires with the blue and green arrows go to the injectors and the one with the red arrow goes to the fuse box.

7. Then take that 16 awg wire and solder it to the 18 awg white/black stripe wire that is still running to the ecu. Its the lead to pin 58 on the ecu. Then tape it up with electrical tape.

8.Now locate the Black wire with a red stripe on the harness at pin 45. It should be the sixth one in.

9.Trace that black wire with the red stripe up to the same height as where the white/black stripe injector wires end.

10. cut a section out of the black wire with red stripe to allow you to solder the white/black stripe wires to it.

11.Solder the wires together.

12.Reconnect the battery and start the Z. If it works, then you now have TRUE swtiched power and no BS about affecting anything else.

12. Tape the soldered connection and then tape the sheild back up around the wires. Replace the ecu, floorboard and carpets and your worries are over.
