Message Procedure for fixing the following problems with your z32 300zx
· The windows rattle when rolled down half way
· The windows leak water when it rains at one or more locations
· The outside window moldings get folded inside the door when rolling down the windows
· Broken upper slider (window won’t seal at the top)

Causes for these problems include
· Loose slider bolts for the windows
· Worn or missing plastic cap for the upper window slider
· The “old” style outside slider
· Worn or bent upper slider track
· Worn or torn rubber window seals (not covered in this writeup, install is straight forward)

Required tools
· A grabber (a long flexible tool with a hand on the end to retrieve parts inside the door panel that you’ve dropped)
· Ratchet with 10, 12 and 14mm sockets with an extension or two
· Screw driver
· Dremel or other suitable rotary cutting tool
· Silicon sealant (optional…you’ll see)
· Needle nose Pliers, the longer the better
· Channel lock pliers

Please read this through entirely before attempting. Some parts below are listed as optional depending on your problem and your degree of “I want everything to be 100% perfect”.

Time required
Budget at least 4 hours for doing both sides for your first time. Can be done in less than 2 hours if you’ve done it before.

Parts required, total cost ~60 from Coz
· 2x Cover (White Plastic Cap)
02/89-05/89 T/R 80392-30P00
05/89-12/90 C+T/R 80392-30P00
12/90-09/91 C+T/R 80392-30P01
09/91-09/93 T/R 80392-30P01
09/93 T/R +Cv 80392-30P01
· 2x Black outside of the window button (its really the head of a male bolt 80370-30P00
· 2x Outside bushings that go in between the window glass and the window button
05/89-06/89 C+T/R 80390-30P00
06/89-09/91 C+T/R 80390-30P10
09/91-09/93 T/R 80390-30P10
09/93+ T/R +Cv 80390-30P11
· 2x inside bushings that go in between the window glass and the circular button 80390-30-P01
· 2x Female slider that goes on the inside of the glass, screws into the outside male part on top of the circle 80332-30P00
· (8x or 10x) Clips that hold on the outside black plastic trim 01553-01493

I’m guessing that in the above information, T/R stands for Ttops/Slicktop, C is convertible.

Optional – replace these if your window does not go up and down smoothly
· 80333-46-P00 Passenger’s side track
· 80261-30-P00 Driver’s side track
· 2x Round Circlular Disks***see below
89-07/95 use 80391-30P02
07/95+ use 80391-30P01

***Round disks, I found it to be much easier to reuse the old disks than to deal with the threading on the new ones. Therefore I’ve listed it as optional. If you’re in the camp where everything must be 100%, then get these. Once again, I found it to be much easier to reuse the old ones. See below

Procedure
1) Start by parking the car with ample amount of room for the door to open. Remove door panel, see for details
2) Remove outside black plastic piece. The clips will probably break, that’s why you should buy new ones
3) Unbolt the upper track and remove, sliding it out the top
4) Loosen the bolts on both lower tracks, upper and lower bolts
5) Remove the stopper on the glass, be careful not to drop the parts in the door
6) Remove the upper stopper on the door
7) Remove the entire window and place on workbench with a towel or something to protect the glass from getting scratched
8) Use a knife to remove the plastic cap on the slider.
9) Take a suitable rag or piece of rubber, use the channel locks to clamp down on the outside button and on the circular disk. Use a screw driver to remove the female half of the slider.
10) There are two ways to proceed from here, a) try to unscrew the round disk or b) cut off male portion at the round disk. I chose to cut it off with the dremel. Remove circle disk, inside and outside gasket, and outside button (the male part).
11) Insert new gaskets and male button. If using a new circle disk, install it now to hold the gaskets and male part together and screw on the female part, use the rag/rubber technique to tighten down. If using the old circle disk, I chose to drill out the hole slightly just to remove the threads on the disk, then slide it on and screw down the female part. Tighten again using the rubber/rag method. It should be tight enough to prevent you from moving the slider around in relation to the glass. The reason for drill out the threads, is that I found that it is not easy to tighten down the male/female and disk enough to prevent rattling.
12) Reinstall the entire window. You may need to further loosen the bolts for the lower tracks just to wiggle the window in and on to the tracks. Install the upper track. Do no tighten down bolts yet. If you’re installing a new track, grease it up again.
13) Roll up window all the way, tighten bolts. Roll it back down and up a few times to make sure it goes up and down all the way without binding up. Tighten bolts when satisfied. Resemble the remaining parts: outside plastic panel, door panel, seat belts etc.
14) Repeat for the other side of the car.
