Message - Firstly, for pistons it looks like Wiseco pistons are very popular and the price is awesome. My question is, is it better to get them from Z1 or go through polydyne and get them coated? Its not much extra for the coating, but is it worth it. Does this just create problems for calculating clearances? I read a few posts about there being a fair bit of slapping due to clearance and offset issues. If polydyne is the go does anyone have a contact email?

The coating on the piston would not last forever. I had Swain Technology coat my JE piston and only last several thousand of miles. Weisco piston has 1mm offset pin just like the stock to reduce piston slap. The new Weisco piston for the Z have a dot marking on top of piston just like the stock (pointing forward of the engine) to make sure you install them correctly. I have a BRAND NEW set of the 87.5mm Weisco piston (with rings, pins and locks) with the dot marking but WITHOUT any coating for sale - $490 shipped. If you want I can send you pictures of them to take a look. Or you can buy the piston WITHOUT any coating through Z1 for about $550 shipped. Another choice is buy them through Polydyne coating (you can look under Vote for FAQ to find the contact at Polydyne) for around $620 shipped - let me know. Personally, I would not put the side coating on the piston and just run the recommended 0.003" piston to wall clearence.

-Secondly are the rods. Now I had a hard time finding out any clear choices on these. What do people recommend and where is the best place to get them. They will need to support an expected 580rwhp. It sounds like eagle or crower are the most popular. Again though I read about problems with the eagle/wiseco combo. Is there still a problem?
:Whats the best gasket to get without o-ringing the block?(there is no-one competent where I live to do this).
:Im replacing the bearings, and using ARP bolts, ive got new lifters and new cams, is there anything else that Im missing that needs repalcement in my rebuild?

Eagle rod is good enough for the power level you want and the price is good. The Crower rod is for sure better than the Eagle rod but the price is about 2X the Eagle rod - so you make the choice. The best gasket without O-ring the block is the stock haed gasket. I assume you have new oil pump and make sure the new oil pump is FREE of metal chip from machining - trust me on this one. I bought a brand new oil pump before and inspect it throughly and found aluminum metal chip left from machining at factory. Just remember -the cleaner it gets, the longer it last and you don't want to rebuild your expensive motor twice because of some little metal chip left inside the engine and damage the bearings. Clean everything TWICE before start assembling the motor.
