Message	#6 which is close enough. #8 is comparable to 3/8. They make adapters for #6 to 5/16 barb or #6 to 1/4 pipe thread to 5/16 barb. You shouldn' t have to use teflon on barb. That doesn't sound safe anyways. Mike
