| This is a conversation that I had with a local shop here in Texas about my car. Lets just say that I wont recommed that place to anyone. This is an actual conversation. Mechanic "Wow, thats a really good looking car. I love working on those." Me "Yeah, thanks, I am pretty proud of it, its my pride and joy" Mechanic "Yeah, they are nice...what kind of car is it" Me (giving mechanic a weird look) "Its a 300ZX" Mechanic "Yeah! I thought so, but it just looked different from all the others...are those the factory mufflers" Me "No, thats Greddy" Mechanic "Yeah, thats what I though. You running some boost" Me "Turbos? No, not yet. I am in the process of getting everything I need to convert it to a TT" Mechanic (looking at me weird) Me "Im about to convert it from an NA to a Twin Turbo" Mechanic "Ohh...yeah.....hate to tell you this buddy, but you cant fit twin turbos on there" Me (trying my hardest not to laugh) "Oh, really? So, how do some Z's have them" Mechanic "Well, I dont know about that one. But I do know it wouldnt work....." Me (I know the guy wants me to ask why, so minus well) "why" Mechanic "Well, those Z's have a problem with their manifold. Im talking intake. The exhaust are all right. But that intake manifold is just crap. I dont know why mazda didnt do a recall on them. They were all welded wrong." Me (yes, thats not a typo above, he said mazda) "How so" Mechanic "Well, one reason you cant make those cars fast is because even if you could fit some turbos on there, you cant boost it. Those manifold welds will blow. All of them." Me (I can feel my I/Q going down just talking to this guy) "So, your saying that by running boost, I will blow the welds on my intake" Mechanic "Yep, probably destroy your whole engine" Me (deciding its time to go) "Well, thanks for the advice. One other question" Mechanic "Go ahead" Me "You watch a lot of the Fast and the Furious" Mechanic "Yeah, its a good movie. Seen it a couple of times. I used to do the things they do" Me (leaving) "Yeah, ok. I thought you might like that movie for some reason. Take care." So, I guess I have to take my TT clip I bough and return it. Its disappointing to know I cant put turbos on my Z. I feel sorry for people who dont know jack about cars. They could go to this guy with a dirty air filter, and leave with new brake pads (and a dirty air filter)
