Message maybe your friend's car ecu is reporting 34 code and there is no problem...maybe his motor is "goofy" and is tolerant of outside parameter "tweaking"...maybe???....

It's just not a good idea to hand out advice to someone else to try on their car. The end result might get ugly. It's ALWAYS best to fix the damn problem and get the car running the way it is supposed to. If he has safety boost and he is running "smoother" than any other Z, because of the retarded timing, he is missing around 20hp (maybe more). The chamber is hotter and the extra fuel is helping to cool it off. It is smooth because that is a byproduct/side effect of retarded timing-complete combustion AFTER TDC.

It works in his engine...great. But it's just a few bandaids that just "happen" to work in unison this one time. The next guy might not be so lucky.
