As a Z owner for 5 yrs now, my car has served me very well.
Quick but not meant to be fast??? Your friend is very sadly mistaken. I've driven my car to top speeds and people who know me can attest to that.
In stock trim, i've ran the car to 155mph, at current level... i can't tell how fast i'm going as the needle goes beyond the 160 speedo.
To be honest, spending over $30K just in mods to make a camero fast is more of a waste than anything gainful.
In the end, it's still a camero. Coulda gotten a nicer car for that amount.
As for blowing the engine if a Z runs at 120mph for 10 - 15mins... false. Completely false. I've run the car at 130mph for over an hr and had no problems. This was done recently at MSA. Took me 45 mins to get to the location from my home and i was averaging... not topping but averaging 130+mph. (hey, 6:45am = not much traffic on a sat)
If your buddy knew that much about what a Z is about and can do, i think he'd change his viewpoint. He just seems to speak from the anal region a la Ace Ventura.
How often can he run 9's on a daily basis on the street? Does his car hold up in the long run? Can he take a corner faster?Doutbful. Such a waste of $$, IMO.
