While your car is running, your thermostat is going to keep the engine operating temperature at a pretty constant temp anyway by limiting the coolant flow. Opening your hood will do absolutely nothing. If it makes the engine cooler by air cooling the engine bay, the thermostat is just going to further limit the flow of coolant to maintain the temperature that it's set for. I think the stock thermostat is set for 180 degrees, so your engine's operating temperature is going to be 180 degrees. Opening your hood while you're driving isn't going to change that.
