Message :Engine problems:
:Mike W. = Spun a bearing due to detonation after 3000+ miles. I have pictures that were sent to Mike of the flattened top bearing. That was in no way a machine shop error
Jim U. = Spun a bearing due to over reving the motor and detonation after 5000+ miles. I also have pictures of Mr. Underwoods top bearing that is flattened due to detonation.
Mine = After two months is still undetermined

"I had mentioned earlier my concern that this particular machine shop had consistently turned out motors that experienced rod knock."

So how is that not a LIE?? I still have not seen you prove that they have "turned out" a motor that "experienced" a rod knock due to their work.

Fred had told me he was part owner. Why would he lie?

Don't know but I will sure ask him on Tuesday. His name is not on our Corporate charter. Maybe he said it jokingly since he is pretty much a fixture of SGP.

We did more to ensure the motor was perfect before putting it on the dyno; more I would bet than most customers you have had. I have little doubt that there was anything we did to cause the problem.

You made a few mistakes but you also did other things right...time will tell.

As for the cause of the bearing failure, it is my guess that it was one of two things 1). Clearance 2). Oiling problems (as you have already mentioned in one of your posts). If it was an oiling issue, I am happy with that. I'll just have the crank shaft properly cleaned next time.

You are getting warmer :-). Cleaning the crank shaft has nothing to do with oiling problems. That would show up in pitting in the bearings from oil contamination. Oil starvation will be apparent with blackening of the bearings and heat marks on the rods.

As for the gentleman in Florida you sent a motor to; good catch and yes, you should have taken care of the problem. I would be more interested though in a customer where the motor has actually been in the car, the car is brought back and there has been nothing charged for warranty work. In other words, an occassion where you admitted to a faulty product. That would be more relevant than an obvious problem.

Actually we kinda had something like that a couple of months ago. We had ordered a turbo motor from ATK to replace a motor with a spun bearing. The gentleman brought the car from Louisiana. When we installed the ATK motor and started filling it with coolant it started leaking all over the floor. Come to find out ATK did not install one of the freeze plugs on the side of the motor. We did not see it because the motor was painted black and it was not plain to see. This all happened after ATK had promised us the Motor on a Monday but we did not recieve it until late on Thursday. Well the customer had already had a flight scheduled for Saturday morning to come pick up the car. Needless to say Mark and I stayed until 3 in the morning to pull the motor to replace the missing plug and get the motor back in and running so the customer could pick it up on Saturday morning.

If you are talking about warranty from a motor we have built....then I have no storys. We have sent out 100+ motors and out of those only a hand full have ever come back to date. Mike and Underwood are two of only 3 that came back last year and all three were proven to the satisfaction of the customer not to be related to install problems. So I have no storys to tell...sorry.
