Message How is it better suited to the car that it's in? Is the VQ so much heavier? Is it a much wider V so it won't fit? Or is it very tall?...so a new hood...CF of course...would be needed.

I'm just beginning the investigation. I'd really like to link the engine swap into my masters program. The company I work for produces electric cooling fan modules...maybe I would eliminate the engine driven fan to save some extra ponies. Lawrence Tech University has a 4 wheel dyno...and with my friends WRX maybe I could do some type of comparison of the improvement in power in the Z32 with each mod. Maybe I could analyze some handling modifications too. And a comparison-of-all-that with the power and handling of Bob's AWD, strut suspension, WRX. I'll think of something fun to do so we can race cars. It'll be a sweet way to get my masters of science in automotive engineering.

He's been kind enough to let me co-drive his WRX this season, which IS competive. The plan is to run nat's in september.

My NA is already in a class where it's not competitive with a VG30 heart (ESP). So what would I be losing. It's underpowered. Handling is not the problem. Less weight would be nice, but I'd trade the hp for a little extra weight. Then I'd take weight out of the rotating components (including the wheels/tires). Find a shorter gear for the back or maybe wide-ass undersize "r-compound" tires for more mechanical advantage. That would also move the weight toward the center of rotation and provide a further reduction in roational inertia. Maybe I could trade forward to the 3.5L since it's in the same brand line and stay in ESP. With ~290 to 300hp it would at least make local events interesting. It's not like I'd have an unfair advantage over ESP would I....come on, over Cobra R's...

Not to mention all that, but it'd make driving to work fractionally more enjoyable.

"And it hasnt NEARLY been enough time to make it economical to put the VQ in the Z32 chassis. "
Since when is racing economical, dude?? You must have a big time sponsor or something?

"The VQ is still very expensive. Not to mention, putting that motor in the Z32 will bump the Z32 into Street Modified where it would compete directly with modified twin turbo Z32s,..."
TT Z32's don't concern me about SM, I've beaten both that I faced as the car sits now. We have a pretty quick Focus and a Canuk with a hype talon that are good local benchmarks though.

".....turbocharged Miatas and modified MR2 turbos to start. It wouldnt have a chance."
Maybe if you were behind the wheel...but hey, thanks for the vote of confidence.

"Any other questions?"
Yeah, where do babies come from?
