Benzene is one of the most potent, widely known and USED carcinogens (in the top 20 of production volume for chemicals) in our industrialized society, to the point that there have been many class-action suits from folks with cancer supposedly caused by exposure to benzene. Yet a link between cancer and toluene has never been shown either from epidemiological studies in humans, or in controlled experiments with lab rats and mice.
