Message Trinitrotolueue, as its name implies, is a toluene molecule with 3 nitro groups (NO2) attached to it.
Tolueue itself could be more precisely described as methylbenzene...an aromatic benzene ring with a single methyl group.

Aromatic hydrocarbons tend to have higher bond energies than their aliphatic (straight chain) counterparts such as propane, octane, etc...which makes them good candidates for anti-knock agents.
