Message that you are supposed to run your car on the lowest octane it can safely handle, especially your average daily driver vehicle.

But then why do so many folks swear their cars run better on higher octane? Placebo effect? What about Funky's "huge gain" above? I have seen theories that the improved volatility of toluene (100%) creates an accelerated exhaust gas that improves turbo boost, like he reported.

I am trying to be as objective as my butt-dyno will allow, and it appears to me that my engine is running smoother and pulling harder than it ever has. The engine even sounds different at idle and under WOT. I realize I don't have a right to make any claims without objective proof, but I think the performance issue on higher octane still leaves a lot of points to be debated.

I'm expecting a big drop in my fun factor once I fill up next with just "plain" gas.
