Even thought I did 8 years as a Marine and just ended the contract in May 2000. The security and benefits of the military seem to far out weight the free loading job market in the civilian world. Trust me I know, after being laid off for the first time in my life just a month and half ago. With unemployment so high it's not the education or experience it seems anymore. But lack of jobs and positions are just growing. I've filled out at least 45 applications with a professional done resume. So qualified that I am, over in most cases, there's just 5000 people shooting for that one position that kills it for everyone. The cost of family insurance is just down right scary. Where a lot of things sucked I'm sure for you as well in your time in, but nobody takes care of you like the military. I mean, cost of living increase per year, food allowance, extra pay allowance for married, medical and dental for the whole family, tax free food stores so on and so on. It's not for everyone, but hell even the single types get free housing and free meals 3 times a day. All this with 30 days vacation a year along with all other holidays from the first year. Cheaper flights to other countries, discounts everywhere. Maybe I'm just bummed in this job hunt......... Congrats bro in whatever life holds for you.
