and what you want to spend. The SR20 will always be the lesser of the 3 you mentioned, it's only advantage is that it is smaller and lighter, so depends what you want to put it in.VG30 vs. RB26: each has their own problems in terms of size.... VG30 is very wide and the turbos often foul on steering rack components, RB26 is moderately long, but the turbo location will cause problems for LHD cars. In terms of power, if you want mild to medium power (say less than 500hp) go the VG30 all the way.... the RB26 will cost more to modify and will be seriously lacking in torque compared to the VG30. To compare, a good condition stock VG30 puts out more rwhp than an RB26. If you want more than 500hp then the RB26 starts to become the cheaper option. This is why I don't understand why people go ga-ga over the RB26... it's only a good engine for a very small percentage of people, most would get much more power for the same money when you're not going crazy with the cash. Each can support about the same amount of power with stock internals, each has an equally strong gearbox. Ignore this whole 1000hp fallacy, there are 1000hp RB26's, 1000hp 1JZ's, 2JZ's, VG30's, and all sorts of other stuff. Each is equally expensive and difficult to achieve... short of people with experience in Japan, there is no great advantage one engine has over another when reaching for such high aspirations. Ben
