Message equation. Friction along the length of a tube causes pressure drop. The longer the tube, the larger the pressure drop, all things being equal(surface roughness, diameter, number of bends, etc).

What you are missing is that the CFM specs on that intercooler site are all based on the SAME driving pressure through the "charge" core.

Imagaine you have a bucket with water in it. You have two tubes of the same diameter sticking out horizontally from the bottom of the bucket. One is 1" long, the other is 20" long. You WILL get more more flow from the shorter tube since there is less resistance to flow through the shorter tube.

In your shake straw exapmle, cutting the straw to half it's length will reduce the pressure needed to suck the shake up into your mouth. If you take the larger straw and make it longer, at some point it will be just as difficult to drink the shake through the two straws.
