Message Reciprocating weight (pistons, pins, rods) has the same effect as rotational weight (flywheel, crank) if the assembly is balanced correctly. At a given RPM, like on a brake-dyno, the weight of the entire assembly doesn't have a direct effect.

From a stoplight though, you'd ideally want all that stuff to weigh as little as possible.

If they're trying to sell you heavy parts, remind them there's a reason we don't all have cast iron con-rods that are a solid 3" diameter.
