| I knew about the problem, so I filled the tank before getting in LA and set the cruise on 54mph. Stayed in the right lane and just let people pass me for what seemed like hours. A little more than half way across the state I noticed a cop following me. 10 minutes later, he turns on his lights. I called my wife (first wife, not current) and told her what was happening and that I was going to run. I told her to get the Texas Highway Patrol to the border, I would accept an arrest from them. Then I ran. Over 150mph most of the way. By the time I got to TX, there were at least 7 cars and a chopper following. I got past two roadblocks before they finished setting them up. I guess they didn't realize how fast I was going. I pulled over behind the _one_ Texas Hwy Patrol officer and came out with my hands up. A few seconds later, LA cops are jumping out of their cars with guns drawn. The Texas cop points his gun at them and tells them to "git on home now boys..." He had seen the same 60 Minutes show I did. I didn't even get a warning. He did keep me there for about 30 minutes just to get me calmed down and reasonable. I guess I was just really lucky that day. It'll be a cold day in hell before some po-dunk pissant with a 65 IQ is going to steal my car.
