I used WD40, a toothbrush, a squirt bottle full of water, and a cloth to clean my engine bay and it worked great. I think The best way to clean the engine is to remove all of the bigger components that are easy to remove and take your time scrubbing and spraying hella wd40. Once I was done cleaning everything and letting it all dry off. I sprayed all the plastic and rubber parts on the engine with armorall original, and they honestly look like new.... Here is a before and after:
