Message values IN the ECU's program via the ZEMulator, you are directly modifying the control code of the engine. With an AFC or ITC, you are 'fooling' the ECU into thinking the engine is operating a little differently than it really is and doing it in such a way as to make the A/F or timing do what you want. The unfortunate reality of using an AFC to adjust the A/F is that since you are fooling the ECU into thinking a little more or a little less air is entering the engine (which is how you adjust the A/F with that device), you are also inadvertently changing the load in which the ECU is calculating. The load value is also used to reference the ignition timing map so the more you start changing your A/F, the more you screw up the ignition timing. In order to counteract this problem, you can use an ITC to correct for the problem that the AFC introduces. But, once you have purchased both of these devices, you are already spending more money than the ZEMulator costs AND you dont have all of the other control functions such as rev limiter changing, speed limiter changing, injector sizing, etc etc etc - all the really important things.
