Message All ECU's from 1990-1995 are 8bit units. They both employ an 8bit processor to sense, compute, and control the engine. In the 1990-1992/~3, the ECU uses an 8bit EPROM chip which holds 256Kb of information. The memory bus the processor uses is an 8bit bus.

In the ~1993-1995 ECU's, the ECU uses what is called an ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit). This device replaces the EPROM, but it still uses an 8bit memory bus. None of the 1990-1995 ECU's are 16bit.

The ECU that the ZEMulator only works with is the 1990-1992/~3 ECU. That /~3 means that SOME of the 1993 ECU's were still using the 8bit EPROM memory structure and not the ASIC design. Since the ZEMulator consists of an EPROM emulator, it only works with the EPROM'd ECU's. One of the nice things about the Z is that any 1990-1995 vehicle CAN use the 1990-1992/~3 ECU without ANY problems at all. If you dont have a 1990-1992/~3 Z (which is where 85% of the total production was produced for the US), you can simply acquire a 1990-1992/~3 ECU (with the EPROM memory) and install it.
