I've found that the truck bed liner will stick better if the existing trim coating is still on. A few bare spots here and there is ok, but don't take it all the way off. Just sand the existing covering and bare spots if any and spray away. My TT's trim was just worn and faded. It has looked great ever since I redid it. The previous owner of my NA had taken the trim all that way off and used some black sticker material instead. So after taking that off I cleaned and sanded the whole surface. Since it was all bare, the truck bed liner didn't seem to stick as well. It has chipped off in a few spots.
