Message :UPS, Fedex charge big $$$$ (CHA CHING) brokerage charges based on the value of the package.
:USPS charges a 5 dollar flat rate brokerage charge doesnt matter value of package.
:All packages coming into Canada from the US are charged an extra 15% import tax (really GST and PST but I call it an import tax) based on the value of the package, this is on top of the brokerage charges. The receiver will have to pay this receiving the package.
:Any package coming into Canada from a person (not a business) value at 60CAD or less and marked as a "GIFT" is exempt of Brokerage and the 15% import taxes.
:I rarely use Fedex as they are really expensive.
:I find UPS ground works fine for big items and takes about 7 days from US to Canada (must do the 60CAD and gift trick or get killed in brokerage charges)
:I find USPS Air parcel also good for medium size items but there is no tracking.
:I find USP Global Express MAil (EMS) great for small to medium items as there is 100% tracking and purolator delivers the package in Canada. It is the fastest but also the most expensive. I use this option if I am buying something small and expensive (like a techtom) I take my chances and get the package valued at under 60CAD and marked as a gift. I dont like paying the Canadian Government teh extra 15% taxes! :-(
:I have had probably around a 1000 items sent from the US To Canada and only had one get lost.
:I have sent probably around a 1000 items to the US using Canada Post/US Post and have had only had 2 packages go missing (one right now)
:Any questions feel free to ask.
