I've never had an auto Z but my '00 Maxima had the "brake band" wear out at 101k. I rebuilt it with a kit from Level Ten in the northeast. It acts VERY much like a worn clutch on a manual. On a Maxima the band only acts in 2nd and 4th gears. You might try shifting into '2' and really gunning it. If you can get it to slip at all this could be it. Since 1 and 3 are unaffected, I drove for 2 weeks with overdrive disengaged and had no problems. Unfortunately if that is it, you'll need a rebuild. Again, this was on a Maxi but sometimes a Nissan is a Nissan. Good luck! :tranny? Pretty sure its slipping from 4th to 5th. Ill be on the freeway, if i let off the gas just a bit, then accelerate again (not flooring it, but close) its like im in nuetral. RPMs sky-rocket, engine sounds like its gonna explode and i take my foot off the pedal. Then if i ease on the gas again, it gets right back into gear. Should i just do that diagnostic?
