Message by drilling a hole in a factory stock crank, you remove roughly 10-15% of its mass and loose roughly 10-15% of it's torsional regidity.
now, when you manufacture a crank from scratch, you cast it, machine it, then heat treat it to up it's strength and longevity. so if you put your little hole in it during the machining process, but before the heat treating process, then it's all AOK imho.

Now, I do like the idea of scribing in a spiral oil channel. (much like a barber shop pole). same amount of material is removed (roughly), regidity isn't as compromised as a HOLE, and the oil works it's way through the oil channel as it rotates, regardless of crank position.

I really am smarter then you. You just have to trust me.
