Message Most TT conversions out there are done as a full engine swap. NA engine (with it's 10:1 comp) comes out, and a TT engine (with it's 8.5:1 comp and turbos) goes in.

Ash actually did a conversion of his NA block to TT spec. And as far as I know, that included lowering the compression as well. Others have gone this route as well, but it's much less common.

The one that you described has been done a few times, but it takes more fine tuning due to the higher comp ratio. It's very rare and it is not "the reason behind all these conversions."
