The Z is geared taller with a 4.08:1 rear end versus the mustangs 3.15:1 (but you can buy 3.55 and 3.71 sets for the mustang). but this does not fully overcome the disadvantage. For example: First gear drive ratios: Mustang 10.55 Z 13.10 torque ratios at maximum torque RPM: Mustang/Z = 1.22 Similar ratios through third gear.
