Message I don't think it's the vehicle electrical system that's doing this- it's the static electric charge that builds up when you swing yourself out of the seat. If you climb out without touching anything metal, you build up a big negative charge (think scuffing your feet on the carpet while wearing socks). As soon as you touch something metallic, the charge "jumps" to the metal and you feel a shock. If you have enough charge built up, you can get a little spark as the charge jumps across a small amount of air to the metal.

I take my keys out of the car and touch them to a painted piece of metal (like the inside of the doorjamb) after I'm out of the car. Make sure you're holding onto a metal part of the key- the key will dissipate the charge before it gets to your skin. Alternatively, you can just hold on to something metallic as you move around getting out of the car. Then you don't give the charge a chance to build up. It looks a little silly, but I hate static shocks enough that I do this every time and it always works for me.

Don't worry about frying anything- all the Nissan OEM stuff, at least, is designed to withstand static electric shocks, as is anything that comes with a CE label.

:out of my TT. It happens whether the car is off or still running with the turbo timer. I was just wondering if anyone else has this problem and what might be a remedy. It happens when I close the door by touching the window or the actual door skin. I know it could be my electric personality... but do you all think maybe I have a bad electrical grounding system in my car? I checked the battery cables and both are tight. Is there a spot where a chassis ground wire is connected as well? It's starting to get annoying. I am worried that I could fry out my alarm remote, cell phone, or Palm Pilot when I get out of the car.
