Message Mech Engr is not a walk in the park, especially they first two years where you're only given abstract math and physics courses and you start to wonder if this shit will ever serve a purpose. The cool part of it is the last year, where you start to apply equations and formulas to real life issues like suspension vibrations, chassis stifness, heat transfer and thermodynamics...you're gonna love it! =)

If you're serious about specializing in design, start learning a CAD/CAM software early in your schooling, dont make the same mistake I made and wait 'till you graduate to start getting into it. I suggest learning how to use Pro/Engineer or CATIA as these are the treandiest softwares.

Here's an example of what you can do on Pro/E. These are working models, so you can do stress simulations or weight analysis on them. Good luck designing those race pistons of yours!! :)
