At the end of April I posted over in the tech forum how I discovered a huge amount of oil in my radiator. After talking to Kyle over at SGP and searching some messages here, the problem was prolly a blown head gasket. Ugh. Fortunately this happens in Houston, so the car gets towed to SGP, Kyle will call after it's torn down in a couple of days. Talk to Kyle on the phone and the head gaskets looked fine... oh no. The heads are sent out and it's discovered that one of them is cracked... ( insert colorful metaphors here ) Good news is that he has a spare head that someone had some light porting work done on that he can use. So I get him to match the work on my good head still wondering how the head cracked in the first place. Last friday Kyle calls to say the car is ready. Heads resurfaced, the porting matched up and put back on, radiator and block flushed out. A full 120k service was also performed and I had him install one of his underdrive pulleys. The best part is that he discovered the cause of all this trouble. One of the freeze plugs decided to corrode... seems the coolant running up to the cracked head was running out of the car instead and letting that head get hot enough to crack. Ugh... A couple of hours after I picked up the car I'm off and heading back to Dallas running with the traffic anywhere from 85 to 115. The car ran great. I did notice the car seemed to pull a little better in the mid to upper range of the rpm gauge. Even the part time clock decided to work... Next on the to-do list is to get all the 'original' suspension pieces replaced and get an ungraded brake kit to replace the small early '90 calipers.
