My first car (an 86 NA Z) was stick ... I'd never driven one before the day I bought it. By the time I had it home, I was practically an expert. I think I only killed it twice as long as I owned it after the first ride (though the first ride was a 2-hour trip). If you're half-way intelligent, you'll pick it up in a second ... and then you'll never buy another automatic for the rest of your life (unless your arms get chewed off by sharks because you're surfing and they think you're a seal when it's really just because of the shape of the surfboard ... then you'll need an auto tranny).
