and it's the reason I bought my 91TT...they are just plain underpowered. Stock 96-97 puts out 215hp(crank), and 98's put out 225hp(revised ecu). The main problem with this motor is the heads...they just plain suck. Very restrictive and porting them is not recommended because of their design. Only way to make 96-98's fast is to supercharge or swap heads. The 99's had revised heads and that's where the 260hp comes from. Some 96-98 owners swap in the later heads, and they end up with more hp than the 99's...I've seen the dyno sheets on [ www.corral.net. ] Those cars are not to be sneezed at.....they put out close to 270 rwhp. I've converted my GT to Saleen specs, and I'll tell ya...it handles far superior to my 91 TT. And we're just talking lowering springs, adjustable struts,c/c plates, and steering bushings. Probably the only reason I'm reluctant to sell it. Get more looks from it than the Z too. Unfortunately, all show and no go. Just thought I'd post since I know both sides hand on.
