I liked the Altima's styling, engine performance and space. But the MAX is a much more refined car. It is not as big, I think it is 7 cubic inches smaller but you can definately tell the difference. The Altima is made in the USA in the Tennessee plant as is the new Maxima, which in my opinion is a mistake. The Maxima up to 2003 was made in Japan and Damn if it doesnt feel much more solidly built. The Altima felt loose and sloppy in comparison to the Maxima. I think the Max is a better car overall. I cannot speak of the NEW Maxima other than I dont really like it. It has its cool points, like the optional 4 bucket seating arrangement and that fancy sunroof, but again it is being built here in the USA and I think the styling is played out now. I personally (hence the trade in)would take a 2k3 Max which would probably be comparable to the New Altima(3.5) in price now due to the New model Max that is out.
