Message Running 15% Toluene in my car right now, runs _very_ well. Surprisingly the power delivery feels a little smoother while building boost. I thought it was just my imagination, but then my buddy commented "... does it seem smoother to you? or am I on crack?"

I was shocked to find out how common it is for people to run Toluene around this area. You can't get racegas anywhere, so it drives people to do other things. The paint shop I was buying it from...

the guy asks "so.. what are you doing with this stuff? cutting huge amounts of 2-part epoxy or something?"

me: "eer... well..."

him: "you know, we always keep a few 5-gallon jugs in back for a guy who buys the stuff to put in his racecar, you believe that?"

me: "really? heh"

Typical 92 octane pump gas has 9% toluene, 100 octane unleaded race fuel has around 27% toluene. So I just added 15% toluene to my 92, gets it to just under 96 octane. The car runs extremely well at 1 bar. On regular 92 it would start to ping around .90. I didn't try pushing the boost any higher to see when I would start to get ping, 1 bar is fine... for now. :)

I'm expecting the 24% (15% + 9%) to be safe for the fuel system, some guys run over 30% in addition to the stuff that is already in the fuel. Crazy fools.

It really feels the same as it did when I was running pure 100 AKI race fuel last year, it's just a little easier to get.

Anyway, just thought I'd share. I know not many people on tt.net run Toluene. If I could get 100 AKI at the pump, I would much prefer to do that!

You really get that race-fuel exhaust smell too, lol.
