Message Even if it is just a street car, driving with heavy 18s will make driving more of a pain in the ass, especially from a stop. On a car with a decent amount of turbo lag already, slower acceleration down low is the last thing we need. Launching is greatly affected by this too. Once you are in boost, the turbos will overcome the heavier spinning mass for the most part, but up until then it should slow you down quite a bit.

Overall diameter will increase using the more popular sizes (such as 275/35/18), lengthening the gears also affecting acceleration.

And 18s will naturally be a rougher ride with less sidewall cushioning the car.

Seems like there are about 45 different drawbacks and one plus to putting on big wheels, being looks of course. IMO, lightweight 17s are the way to go if you must go to larger wheels (for fitting bigger brakes for instance). Losing weight will improve acceleration while getting a few more horsepower to the wheels. And in a nice 9-10" wide size with a thick tire on there, cornering and stability should be better. Seems like the best of everything.
