Got it at the beginning of winter, had to replace a few things (water pump, carbeurator, belts, plugs, wires, distributor cap/rotor) but after those things, it runs great. Not the fastest or nicest riding thing on the road, LOL, but it gets the job done. Absolutely fantastic off road/snow capability. It's leaf springs are VERY stiff (not refined-stiff like a Z... just BUMPY), it's a bit uncomfortable actually, but what I like is that you don't have to take painstakingly slow turns, you can whip it around a bit. It's quite fun to drive actually, in it's own way. I wanted something fun, could get around in a few feet of snow in the winter, could pull my jetskis, and was cheap, so a Wrangler fit my description perfectly.
But I won't lie - it's VERY bouncy, VERY noisy, VERY primitive, has no A/C... is poorly designed and honestly I'm not sure if I would want to drive it exclusively, I'm very much looking forward to taking my Z out of storage so I can have a break from the Wrangler. It will be fun in the summer to drive half the time, but I'm not looking forward to next winter - the primitiveness of it kinda gets to me :/ I suppose if I got some more insulation for it and figured out a way to make it ride softer I'd like it alot better, we'll see, I have no idea if those are even possible. Don't get me wrong, I do like my Wrangler quite a bit, but there are a lot of negatives to it as well.
Not sure what year you're talking about, mine is a '90 YJ, but TJ's (I believe 95+?) are a MUCH different creature. Wayyy nicer, more refined, softer, etc. so I would definitely recommend one of those if you can afford one. If you do get a YJ like mine, try and get a fuel injected 6 cylinder - I have the carbeurated 6, and it's at times difficult.
