Message :you talk about dimming lights.
:that's cause that shit runs off the batteries.
:so when you turn on your 80 giggawatt stereo, battery voltage drops xxx rpm. thats the dim. the battery. not the alternator.

The reason the RPM decreases is because it becomes harder to turn the alternator when you apply more of a load to it. The lights dim when you turn on the blower because you introduced a current draw to the electical system.

He're's an experiment for you that will make this easy. Get a hand cranked generator. Turn the crank, with nothing attached its wires. Feel how easy it is to turn. Now hook up a heavy load to the wires, like a motor. Feel how hard it got to turn.

Another example- a gas powered generator. There's no battery on it, so we don't need to worry about that. Listen to the generator run with no load on it. Now hook up some lights to it, and turn them on. You will easily hear the load put on the engine, the engine will slow down for a moment and then quickly correct itself by taking in more fuel.
