Message One reason JWT has been able to charge so much for ECU programs is that he has had a monopoly on the market. I'm glad Ash has stepped in to provide an alternative.

The value in what JWT has done lies mostly in all the R&D (dyno testing) that he has done to provide reliable ECU programs and customer support. But $600+ for a socketed ECU and chip? $100 for a minor change? Come on!

Likewise, Ash has put significant effort into developing software to aid user-friendly tuning. This has a market for sure. But, it has been shown that this software is not necessary, and the hardware can be had for less. The convenience factor has a price, but we have to see that normal market forces set it!

I hope this public posting will encourage cheaper and better quality tunes. Ease of use is worth something, but the going rate has to change.

Frankly, I like the idea of "standard issue" tunes for free. This will of course make the ECU vendors nervous but the free flow of information will benefit the 300ZX community as a whole.
