If you are new and don't know the drill, I'll explain it. For the rest of you, skip this paragraph :) Basically, this is one of my write-ups. It's long as hell, sometimes funny and ALWAYS chocked full of pics. If your connection to the internet is a slow one, go grab something to eat or polish that exhaust. Do something! Anyway, here ya go :) I don't know what to think anymore...just when I thought I was tired of events and car gatherings, something like this comes along. Last year (it's first year) Mani setup a badass little car gathering. He posted on the various sports car sites and we managed to get somewhere along the lines of 60 cars together (most being 300ZX's :). It was a BLAST and I remember most of you were in awe at what a good showing we had. Well this time we had 120+ cars! Not just Supras, RX7s and Zs. I'm talking 13+ Vipers, Porsches of all kinds, Skylines, you name it! And they were all far from stock. We had Viper GTS-R's and NOSed out this and NOSed out that. It was bitchin! The ferrari's were nowhere to be found, but by total LUCK a 550 Maranello just happened to see us and strolled in! The guy was totally cool. Here's his car since no one believed me :)
So as you can see already, it was not going to disappoint. Other than the blemish of an accident later in the day (more on this later), it was a phenomenal trip! We gathered in the parking lot of a RiteAid and because we had so many cars with the heat, Mani arranged for a Unocal 76 truck to be there with 100 and 110 octane fuel. It was nearly 100 degrees so no one wanted to mess around. After a briefing and meeting some of my fellow Z colleagues, I went around snapping some pics. Almost every car there was badass...so I had to be choosy in what I took pics of (damn laptop battery was dead for downloading pics!). If you don't know who's car this is, you shouldn't be reading this post :P
Here are just a FEW of the many Vipers that showed up. Yes, that is a wing back there.
Here's the infamous Jack B. and his Supra. I'm sorry, but I had to laugh at the plate! That's just classic :)
This guy rolled up in an already badass car, but then furthered the "show off" factor by proceeding to purge an assload of Nitrous (of which, he had TWO tanks worth in the back).
I'd take either one over a stock Viper, but I bet he really does...
Later on "Mr. Motorex" stopped by with his R34. We cruised together for most of the trip up and it was great seeing that thing on the road. I felt like I was in Osaka (minus the fact that we were on the wrong side of the road and not slathered in fine asian women =). It was really cool talking to THE source as far as bringing in Skylines go. He and his g/f were great and he was full of info about my possible future (I hope) purchase ;)
Here's a photo of two shopping carts...oh...wait ;) I was being mischevious LOL. I wasn't even going to post it...but even a few Supra guys laughed so... =)
So it was 9am pretty quickly and we started out. This time we just had maps and went on our own. It worked out great as I had some time to work the roads to myself. I grew up in this area and know Angeles crest like the back of my hand. It's much more fun when you don't have people getting in the way ;) A lot safer too. Soon I met up with the R34 again and we headed into our first stop. It was just a quick breather for the cars and some time to let the brakes cool...

Check out this sweet looking Porsche...one of many actually :) My boss is gonna flip...this is THE car he wants!
What a badass set of cars. Lookout for that pedestrian! ;)
From there it was a LOT more of the twisties and straightaways until we arrived at the Mile High Cafe. My car ran GREAT! I had it in the high RPMS for most of the trip and it still ran like a champ! I never got hotter than 209 degrees even with massive hills and stop and go turns. Though, I'm really thinking about tossing some swaybars on this old dog!
Here I am treating my baby to some MUCH needed fresh air. These engine bays are hot enough, let alone in this weather.
Sick of me and the R34 yet? No? Okay ;)
I wasn't expecting to see one of these up here! By the way, it's a 72 and he just picked it up in near mint shape for pennies...bastard :)
And finally here's one of the other Skylines. This guy had a lead foot I heard...
The rest of my time was taken up in the cafe. No, not stuffing my face with burgers, but downloading the photos. They had power for my laptop, woo! Had they not been generous with it, I would have missed out on documenting the eventful trip home. So from there, it was homeward bound. Normally, I would have headed back the SAME way we came up and the rest of the pack would have continued in the loop to get home. I've seen the evils that this canyon posesses and I know better than to travel with a bunch of 400+hp cars downhill into the twisties with surprise animals and road work at every corner... However, I continued on. I figured I'd leave in between the first and second groups (20 minutes apart) and I'd be in great shape. That way I could chill and enjoy the car, music and scenery. Unfortunately, I was greeted to a girl at the side of the road holding up a bumper, yes a BUMPER, in front of a sharp corner, signaling for me to slow down...I knew what had happened. INSTANTLY. Been there, done that. Here's what I was saw...(P.S. More photos down below on Steamy's post).
As well as...
Check out how close these two were. Basically, if you read either my post below or Steamy's you'd know that both of these guys were being idiots on the road. The M3 hit first because he took a *blind* turn WAY too fast and had a packed car (sure, kill yourself AND your friends why dontcha?). He missed the gaurdrail leading to certain death and went into the wall (lucky for him). As Steamy stopped to help him out, this stock Honda that was ridiculed for trying to be part of our group (though we all thought he shouldn't have) came flying around trying to "keep up" with everyone and took the opposite path as the M3. He hit the dirt curb and flew into the air, jumping a gap, then landed backwards over a STEEP and DEEP cliff. Had it not gripped the 2 feet of soft sand on the front tires he WOULD be dead. Not to mention the fact that he nearly KILLED about a dozen people that were standing there for the other wreck. Scariest shit I've seen in a long time. Then he has the *gall* to ask us to help him push it over the
I am currently NOT looking for a TTZ...at least not for now :) Other possibilities have arisen...but if you DO find a sweet 94/95 TT 5 speed with low miles, email me anyways! You never know what can sway me! |
