The ECU is primarily a tuning and margin of safety addition.

Christopher here in Austin has been running 14psi (with a Greddy controller, not jets) for a couple of years now on his stock ECU.

He recently did some dyno pulls @ 17psi, again with the stock ECU.

He came close to the stock injector limit (96% duty) in the upper RPMs at 17psi, but he wasn't veering into the lean at all.

At 14psi, he has plenty of injector overhead.

If you really wanna smoke this guy, just stick some boost jets (welding tips) into your wastgate actuator signal lines. I think a 0.35" diameter tip will give you around 14psi. Don't use a tip any smaller than that, though.
