:When dealing with snow, it's different than dry, obviously. you want narrow hard tires in the snow to cut through it and get to the pavement. Wider contact patch will just roll over the snow greatly reducing traction. Maybe Luke will chime in here and verify this.

Driving on snow roads, the pavement is probably never seen becoz it's been compressed or iced, and the tire can't cut thru.
I dunno, I think the keyword for the whole discussion is depending on driving on snow or ice (the mediem the tire contacts).
On ice rink, one can skate father on the narrow skate than the wider stake.
Snow tire's threads are different and probably aren't effected greatly with the pressure.
I dunno even know what I am talking about now. and I will stop copying you if you stopped getting on my ass :-)
