Message	of the spring to the shock. Also with a coilover you have more tuning ability such ride hieght shock travel and etc. Some coilovers even come with external oil reserviors which maintain the oil within the shocks to remain cool. Also most coilovers are linear rate so are more predictable than a progressive rate spring.
