Message prevents oil from draining out of the filter and back into the oil pan, causing dry starts. This is an important feature on cars where the oil filter is mounted horizontally instead of vertically. I don't think it is so important on the Z. Also, many aftermarket filters such as Mobil1, PureOne and K&N have anti-drainback valves. I do not believe there is any specific advantage to OEM over these filters.
