As I said in my post, "The Typhoon class submarines (also known as Akula class to the Russians)" The way I stated it is correct. In Russia, where they built these subs, they do not not call it the Typhoon class. They call it the Akula class, which means shark. Now NATO gives Russian equipment its own designation. They gave Russia's "Akula" class subs the NATO designation of "Typhoon" class. So in the USA, it's the Typhoon class, but in Russia it is the Akula class. To complicate the issue, when the Russians made a new attack submarine which they called the "Bars" class, NATO designated that class the "Akula" class. Russian Akula = NATO Typhoon
