Message OK, here's the story... I have the Stillen F40 Brembo brakes, and everytime I take off my wheels and put them back on, my rotors warp. Here's the odd part though... after driving around for about a month with them warped, they smooth out... and 2 months later, they're perfectly fine. Could I be "machining" down the rotors over time to make them flat as I use them?

Now, when I put my wheels back on, I always torque them in a star shaped pattern, and gradually work my way up to 85 ft-lbs. Typically, I'll go "20, 40, 60, 70, 80, 85 ft-lbs", but sometimes I'll even start at 15 ft-lbs and work all the way up to 85 in increments of 10 ft-lbs. I have a good "click" type torque wrench, so that I know the torque is consistent at each step. Here are my questions...

1) Should I be using bigger increments? I've read that you should do the first torque as 60% of the final torque, and then for the second step, go the rest of the way for torquing down heads. Does this apply as well?

2) Should I be using lubricant on the studs? I've read that you get a more accurate torque reading with lubricant; HOWEVER, I've also read that you should not do that for lug nuts.

Thanks for any advice.
