cuz i had taken him to the vet regularly and had him there about 2 months b4 we found the tumor - vet said he was the healthiest 14 year old he ever saw and that he was amazed at his energy levels and strength - then i moved down here to VA and my pup started gettin these weird fall down spells - he'd fall and not be receptive or recognize anything for about 5-15 minutes - wouldnt eat a hamburger, cookie, treat wouldnt look at anyone - he'd fall and just stare. that scared the shit out of me after he did it about 5 times so i took him to the vette (oh and he wasnt eating well anymore either) and they kept him for xray and i think cat scans - found a orange-grapefruit sized stomach ulcer that had been bleeding - i told them to operate and fix him and i'd pay whatever - then they told me that since it was bleeding and his age that he would either only have a 50/50 chance to make it through the operation and that if he did he had about a 95% chance of more cancer b/c of the internal bleeding.
They recommended i put him down - i asked for him back for 3 nites so i could spend some time w/ him - i had to carry him outside and feed him only ice basically and slept w/ him on the floor every nite - was heartbreaking to say the least.
good luck w/ ur pup - my only advice - try to recongnize when its better to let them be in peace - that was the only thing making me feel better at all - i knew he was a strong proud dog and the condition he got down too really took everything away from him.
