I would say it's more like a triangle with rounded off points wobbling inside an oval that is pinched in the middle, or 2 circles that are next to each other. Its proper name is an epitrochoid. But either way you state it, the motion isn't circular, it has a wobble to it since the rotor's axis is not in the middle, the axis is rotating around the perimeter of a circle inside of the rotor as it spins. Then the tips of the rotor seal against the sides of that pinched oval shape. I have an excellent stop motion video of it so you can see for yourself:
